Who is Riebeeckrand
Hoërskool Riebeeckrand was established in 1996 after two high schools, Hoërskool Riebeeck and Hoërskool Goudrand, merged.
In pursuing its vision and mission, Hoërskool Riebeeckrand has, to this day, remained a dynamic school. It is a sought-after school where each learner matters and where each learner is developed to reach his/her full potential. The school is based on Christian principles, but accommodates other faiths. The school takes pride in its traditions and provide a host of activities in which learners can participate.
The principal, Ms Annelize Van Den Berg and the Riebeeckrand staff are driven by and focused on developing and forming the school and its learners to the best version of themselves, and in so doing, enable them to face the future with hope.
From 2018 the language of education and learning at Hoërskool Riebeeckrand is Afrikaans and English. There is currently parallel medium teaching in grades 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.
Our Vision & Mision
Vision: Live with hope.
Mision: To create a safe, disciplined environment that guides and prepares learners to successfully establish knowledge, life skills and core values which lead to balanced development creating hope for the future.
We live according to the principle of “Voluit vir Riebeeckrand”.
Our School Crest and Anthum
The school emblem’s design was a collaborative effort by the principal, staff members and the governing body under the guidance of Mr Klasie van der Wal, then principal of Riebeeckrand
The emblem symbolises the school’s anchor that is embedded in our belief, namely “Geanker in geloof” (Anchored in faith).
The motto is the core in which our school’s ethos and mission is based, namely faith.
The symbolism of the motto is summarised in the final lines of the school anthem, namely:
“Because anchored in faith in God,
Our dreams receive meaning and purpose.
Is our direction and strife already determined-
To achieve victory”
The school anthem’s words and music was composed by Dr Francois van den Berg.
The school colours are orange, white and blue.
The slogan of the school is:
The 10 out of 10 school.
Tradition
At Riebeeckrand POORTLOOP is a cherished tradition. Every Grade 8 learner as well as newly enrolled learners at Riebeeckrand, who passes through this gateway, is accepted as a fully-orientated Riebeeckrander. This ceremony takes place after the completion of the orientation program and Grade 8 Concert.
On this important occasion each learner receives a certificate in which he/she pledges to always be part of and take part in everything this dynamic school has to offer.
The gates of the POORT are unlocked and opened for these learners by the principal, supported by the staff, the governing body and the prefects.
Five years later, towards the end of their matric year, these learners leave Riebeeckrand through these same gates, which symbolise their entrance into the adult world as proud Riebeeckranders.
